Genesis est un groupe de rock anglais formé à la Charterhouse School, à Godalming, dans le Surrey, en 1967. La formation qui a connu le plus grand succès commercial comprend le claviériste Tony Banks, le guitariste Mike Rutherford et le batteur/chanteur Phil Collins. Les autres membres importants étaient le chanteur Peter Gabriel et le guitariste Steve Hackett. Le groupe a connu plusieurs changements importants de style musical au cours de sa carrière, passant de la musique folk au rock progressif dans les années 1970, avant de s'orienter vers la pop à la fin de la décennie. Formé par cinq élèves de Charterhouse, dont Banks, Rutherford, Gabriel et Anthony Phillips, Genesis a été nommé par un ancien élève, Jonathan King, qui a organisé l'enregistrement de plusieurs singles et d'un album sans succès. Après s'être séparé de King, le groupe a commencé à faire des tournées professionnelles et a signé avec Charisma Records. Après le départ de Phillips, Genesis a recruté Collins et Hackett et a enregistré plusieurs albums de style rock progressif, avec des concerts centrés sur les costumes et les performances théâtrales de Gabriel. Leur discographie comprend quinze albums studio et six albums live, dont six ont atteint le sommet des classements britanniques. Ils ont remporté de nombreux prix et nominations, dont un Grammy Award pour le meilleur concept de vidéo musicale avec "Land of Confusion", et ont inspiré un certain nombre de groupes d'hommage recréant des spectacles de Genesis à différentes étapes de leur carrière. En 2010, Genesis a été intronisé au Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Leur plus grand succès à ce jour est Invisible Touch, qui a passé trois semaines consécutives à la première place. Peter Gabriel a été le chanteur du groupe de rock progressif de 1967 à 1975. Il voulait pimenter les performances du groupe et a donc commencé à porter des maquillages et des vêtements élaborés, le plus célèbre étant le masque de renard et la robe rouge qui sont devenus la couverture de leur album Foxtrot de 1972.
