Ses membres étaient le chanteur et guitariste John Fogerty, son frère et guitariste rythmique Tom Fogerty, le bassiste Stu Cook et le batteur Doug Clifford. Le groupe a produit sept albums studio et s'est vendu à plus de 26 millions d'exemplaires rien qu'aux États-Unis. Bien qu'ils soient originaires de la Bay Area, leurs paroles reflètent souvent celles d'un groupe du sud des États-Unis, car elles tournent autour des bayous, des poissons-chats, du fleuve Mississippi et d'autres éléments populaires de l'iconographie du sud des États-Unis, ainsi que des paroles politiques et sociales sur des sujets tels que la guerre du Vietnam.
