VERSE ONE:
All around the water tank
Waiting for a train
A thousand miles away from from
Sleeping in the rain
I pulled up to a freightman
Just to give him a line of talk
He said if you got money
I'll see that you don't walk
Well I havent got a nickel
Not a penny can I show
He said get off you railroad bum
And he slammed that boxcar door
VERSE TWO:
Well he put me off in Texas
In a state I dearly love
The wide open spaces all around me
Ther moon and stars above
Nobody seems to want me
Or to lend me a helping hand
I'm on my way from Frisco
Headin back to Dixieland
My pocket book is empty
And my heart is full of pain
Im a thousand miles away from home
Waitin for a train
I'm not sure which key Johnny sings it in. He had recorded this song on the
album Blood Sweat and Tears: and on the first volume of Unearthed(Who's Gonna
Cry). I think the unearthed version is in E. But I put the chords in because
that's the way Jimmie Rodgers sings it. But for easy chording the key of is
good.
