MY FATHER'S GUN
   Year : 1971
  Album : Tumbleweed Connection
Writers : Elton John & Bernie Taupin
Here's my version of "My Fathers Gun" By Elton John. Its much easier to play on acoustic
without all the flats and sharps. There may be a few chord changes missing but overall
sounds good. (Not in same key as album).
Standard Tuning
|
From this day on I own my father's gun.
C#/Dbm                  A
We dug his shallow grave beneath the sun.
I laid his broken body down - below the southern line.
It wouldn't do to bury him  -  where any Yankee stands.
E             A            Gm7
I'll take my horse and I'll ride the northern plain.
C#/Dbm                  A
To wear the colour of the greys and join the fight again.
I'll not rest until I know  -  the cause is fought and won.
From this day on until I die    I'll wear my father's gun.
CHORUS:
I'd like to know where the riverboat sails to - night.
To New Orleans well that's just fine   al - right.

`Cause there's fighting there and the company needs men.
   A                 B               E A E A
So slip us a rope and sail on round the  bend.
E             A            Gm7
As soon as this is over we'll go home.
C#/Dbm                  A
To plant the seeds of justice in our bones.
To watch the children growing  -  and see the women sewing.
There'll be laughter when the bells of freedom ring.
{Repeat Chorus Fade}
