En tant que membre fondateur des Fugees, Lauryn Hill a craché ses paroles véridiques comme aucune autre artiste rap féminine de l'histoire. Aussi instructive qu'inspirante, Lauryn a connu un succès monumental avec ses albums solo qui ont été multi-platine. Son premier album, Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, classique et acclamé par la critique, sortait des sentiers battus pour les rappeuses de son genre, en faisant réfléchir les auditeurs sur les grandes causes de leur communauté et sur la manière d'être une femme puissante sans se vendre. L'album s'est également avéré être un énorme point de repère dans le rap, car il a combiné le rap, le r&b et la néo-soul dans un mélange unique et magnifique, rempli d'histoires et de concepts religieux différents. Bien qu'elle se soit retirée après le succès de ses débuts, principalement à cause de son enfant, Lauryn a continué à faire des apparitions lors de différents spectacles (notamment lors d'un concert avec Drake en 2014).
