Le chanteur, auteur-compositeur et guitariste écossais Donovan Leitch est l'une des figures les plus influentes de l'explosion de créativité musicale des années 60. Son intronisation en 2002 au Rock & Roll Hall of Fame confirme l'ingéniosité de Donovan qui a "initié à lui seul la révolution psychédélique" en mélangeant des éléments folkloriques, blues, jazz, classiques, latins et indiens. Donovan a enregistré une douzaine de succès au Top 40 au cours de sa carrière, dont certains des titres les plus mémorables de l'époque comme "Mellow Yellow", "Sunshine Superman" et "Season of the Witch". Avant cette incursion psychédélique, Donovan a mené une carrière plutôt réussie en tant que musicien folk, comme en témoignent les deux albums sortis en 1965, What's Bin Did and What's Bin Had - rebaptisé Catch the Wind aux États-Unis - et Fairytale.
