Don McLean III est un auteur-compositeur-interprète américain né le 2 octobre 1945. En 1969, McLean part en tournée avec Pete Seeger, à qui il attribue le mérite de lui avoir appris à se produire sur scène. Pendant cette tournée, il écrit son premier album Tapestry, qui est rejeté 72 fois par les labels avant d'être finalement repris par Mediarts.
