Arthur Ira Garfunkel (né le 5 novembre 1941) est un chanteur, poète, enseignant et acteur américain. Il est surtout connu pour son association avec Paul Simon dans ce qui a été appelé le "duo folk-rock le plus réussi des années 1960 - Simon & Garfunkel" (/artistes/Simon-and-garfunkel). Le duo a remporté 11 Grammy Awards, dont un Lifetime Achievement Award, et a été plus tard intronisé au Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, avec des chansons qui ont figuré au hit-parade comme "Mrs. Robinson", "The Sounds Of Silence" et "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Après la séparation de Simon & Garfunkel, il a enregistré six succès au top 40 dans les années 1970 en tant qu'artiste solo, dont quatre en tête du classement A/C. En 1982, après que deux albums consécutifs aient manqué le top 40 et n'aient produit aucun succès au top 40, il s'est réuni avec Simon pour une tournée mondiale. Depuis lors, Garfunkel a parfois dit du mal de Simon dans les médias en raison du refus de Simon de collaborer à nouveau, partageant de manière célèbre en 2015 ce qu'il ressentait à propos de leur rupture de 1971 : Comment peux-tu quitter cet endroit chanceux au sommet du monde, Paul ? Qu'est-ce qui te prend, idiot ? Comment as-tu pu laisser passer ça, crétin ? En 2017, il a publié un mémoire intitulé What Is It All but Luminous : Notes from an Underground Man. À partir de 2020, il continue à faire des tournées.
